What can you expect?

During the Amsterdam Light Festival bike tour, you will discover the stories behind the light artworks that bring the theme of rituals to life. The tour starts at the oldest inhabited square in Amsterdam, at a bicycle artwork, and takes you past an installation of shooting stars. At Central Station, you will meet the North Star, a light artwork that symbolizes orientation and navigation, an essential ritual for travelers. We then cycle past the light projections at the NEMO Science Museum and via the Maritime Museum and the Kadijken to the Herengracht. At many different artworks, we get off our bikes to discover the artwork and the story behind it. Of course, there is the opportunity to take photos.

You will also pass the iconic Magere Brug, which can be seen beautifully in all its simplicity in the atmospheric evening lighting of the city.

At the Stopera, you get off to walk through the light labyrinth Lost in Light, an artwork by Abdo El Moudawar that symbolizes our personal journey to self-awareness. As you walk through the illuminated maze, you will discover how rituals help us make choices, overcome mistakes and ultimately reach our core. The labyrinth ends with a mirror, inviting you to confront yourself and reflect on your connection to the natural world. This exclusive artwork combines technology and light to both surprise and inspire thought.

The route takes you further along the Herengracht, where you will encounter the artwork with a colorful rainbow of light. This artwork symbolizes diversity and hope. This bike tour shows you Amsterdam as a city where art and ritual come together in a surprising play of light.

One of the highlights of the tour is Cédric Le Borgne’s Les Voyageurs, an artwork with koi carp swimming against the current in the Yellow River, a legendary symbol of strength and determination. The sculptures, made of light and metal mesh, invite you to reflect on our own challenges and the courage it takes to overcome the impossible. The artwork features not only koi, but also human figures, enriching the story of travel and perseverance.
