Amsterdam is one of Europe’s most beloved cities – and there’s no better way to experience it than by bike. With over 500km of cycle paths weaving through golden canal rings, centuries-old neighbourhoods, and buzzing street life, cycling is simply how Amsterdam moves.
But not all bike tours are created equal. A private bike tour means no strangers, no compromise on pace, and a guide entirely focused on your group. Whether you’re planning a family outing, a romantic escape, or a corporate team event, a private tour transforms sightseeing into a genuine local experience.
For over 35 years, Yellow Bike – Amsterdam’s original guided bike tour company since 1990 – has been helping visitors understand the real city.

Yellow Bike’s iconic fleet consists of lightweight, adjustable city bikes with both a pedal brake and a front handbrake – the classic Dutch way of riding. Bikes come in all sizes, and children’s bikes and child seats are available. For those who prefer a little extra help, e-bikes can be arranged on selected tours.
The Guides
Yellow Bike’s local guides are the heart of every tour. Knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about their city, they bring Amsterdam’s neighbourhoods to life with stories that go well beyond the standard tourist script – from tales of squatters’ movements and civil resistance to Amsterdam’s role in sustainable urban living. Guides are experienced in steering groups safely through city traffic, making even first-time cyclists feel at ease.
The Route
Routes are crafted to show the city at a relaxed pace – typically around 7km for the classic 2-hour tour. You’ll ride through neighbourhoods, across canal bridges, and into corners of the city that buses and walking tours simply can’t reach.“

Guests receive a complimentary stroopwafel during the classic tour. On the lunch tour, a traditional Dutch twaalf uurtje lunch is included. Ponchos are available free in wet weather, and after your tour you’ll receive a 25% discount on Yellow Bike’s bike rental service.

About Yellow Bike: Amsterdam’s Original Bike Tour Company
Yellow Bike wasn’t just one of the first bike tour companies in Amsterdam – it invented the city bike tour format. In 1990, the founders put together a safely guided cycling experience through the canal city, and in doing so, created a model that inspired eco-tourism operators around the world.
Today, Yellow Bike remains a family business with two locations: a monumental building on Nieuwezijds Kolk 29, just steps from Amsterdam Centraal station – the oldest inhabited square in the city. That philosophy means a personal touch that larger operators can’t replicate.
Beyond tourism, Yellow Bike actively contributes to a more liveable Amsterdam. We collaborate with Amsterdam & Partners, support local artists, organise small-scale neighbourhood events, and even host a free monthly bike repair club where anyone can learn basic maintenance: Yellow Bike Club.
Their tours are small by design – standard group tours cap at 12 participants – and increasingly focused on the social, inclusive, and sustainable sides of the city. If you want to understand Amsterdam beyond the postcard, Yellow Bike is where to start.
